Therapy

I am a professionally qualified member of the IACP (Irish Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists) and work from an Integrative Person-Centred approach to therapy. This approach draws upon a wide variety of counselling and psychotherapy models and focuses on meeting the person where they are in the moment, with their individual needs and experiences.

I completed my therapy training in 2009 and believe in a holistic and wholehearted approach, one that looks on each person as a whole being with an innate tendency to develop their full potential, and recognise that this can be blocked or thwarted by our life experiences, particularly those that cause us pain or confusion.

Some of the areas I work with include: anxiety, abuse, depression, bereavement, relationship issues, suicide, sexuality, spirituality, low self-esteem, stress, trauma, creative blocks and emotional difficulties.

Giving yourself space to therapeutically explore issues can reduce stress and provide an opportunity for growth and change at a deep level. The focus is on supporting you to connect with your authentic self so that the difficulties that are being experienced can be explored in a clear and helpful way. The intention is to create an environment where you feel resourced enough to accept and release issues from the past, build presence in the moment and step forward to make the decisions that are right for you.

I offer 1:1 sessions in Ranelagh, Dublin 6 and online.

Movement therapy & Somatic healing

One of the principle ways human beings communicate is through movement. We are used to thinking and trying to understand with our minds, however we are not used to listening to the body or trusting its' wisdom. This form of therapy listens to the body and its messages.

The language of the body is movement, it is our first language, our most honest expression and the closest to the truth of who we are and how we relate to ourselves and the world around us. The body speaks through sensations, the physical energy of our feelings and the way we move. Movement therapy uses the body's language to connect with our internal worlds and focuses on supporting the person to stay grounded and present in the body during the therapy process.

By following the flow of movement and energy in our bodies we can express our inner experiences in a clear and simple manner and use the body itself as a vehicle to create lasting change.

In my experience, during the healing process the body needs as much care and attention as the mind. This can be as simple as eating nourishing food, taking light exercise and getting enough sleep, or as in depth as using the body as a resource for healing itself. Because physical expression is often much clearer than words, movement & somatic therapy offer another path or route into the unconscious by allowing the body to take the lead. Through following simple physical movements in a safe, therapeutic space we can explore what the body wants to say about an issue or situation and begin to release any blockages held on that level.

The insight received during such a session is usually deeply rooted in the body, which leads to increased understanding and self-awareness.

People do not need to have any previous experience of movement work and it is open to everyone.

A regular session will often consist of a combination of talking, listening for the somatic sensations and exploring simple movement structures. This is done slowly and sensitively with pauses along the way for the participant to observe what is happening and to explore the arising feelings and sensations. The body takes the lead through movement and my job is to support you to witness and engage with the emerging themes.

Movement therapy is suitable for people who wish to explore issues and include the body in that process. No previous movement experience is required. It is open to everyone.

In 2008 I trained in with Andrea Juhan (founder of Open Floor movement school and Therapy in Motion) to practice movement therapy and I draw on my early trainings in somatic healing, bodywork and energy medicine to support this practice.

Embodiment of the Feminine Principle

Since 2014 I have facilitated monthly groups and individual sessions working specifically with the innate wisdom and intelligence of the feminine principle expression through the body. This can be in the form of movement rituals, lunar cycle gatherings, womb healing sessions and movement workshops that are designed to support connection to the womb centre. From there we enter a place of deep listening to the flow of the life force, the libido and the sexual and spiritual energies that can be accessed through various gateways of the human body.

It is my understanding that a significant portion of our creative gifts and essence can be reached through connection to the psychic and primordial energy of the body/mind, and in particular through the womb centre. This is irrespective of current physical womb situations and stage of cycles. Human beings who experience life through the female form, including all who identify as female, have access to specific creative powers and can also face particular challenges that are unique to this experience. I see that when we receive support and encouragement to access these places a natural healing and remembrance occurs that can realign us with what matters most to us and help us to heal and express ourselves more fully in our lives, in our relationships, our work and within our communities.

I have attended womb-centric shamanic training & animistic courses within the Lyceum in the UK, alongside training in ceremonial land work and ongoing studies with the Temple of Éiriú in Ireland.
